CHRISTIAN WILLIAMS – heart kid

CHRISTIAN WILLIAMS22 year old Christian was first diagnosed with Dilated Cardiomyopathy in July 2007 at age 19. He had been suffering blackouts, severe palpitations and chest pains for several years but was not diagnosed and was admitted to hospital after his heart started to shut down in 2007. Despite his condition he was able to be a member of several Australian and Victorian lacrosse teams and also Captain of the U19 Australian team. Since then, Christian was forced to find a new sport which played less stress on his heart or give up sport entirely so he chose hammer throwing with his first year representing Victoria at National Championships and spent time as a training partner to his mentor/coach Olympic Champion Koji Murofushi in Japan. He was named a ‘Remarkable Australian’ and Olympic Spirit Ambassador in 2008 and was an Olympic Torchbearer in Canberra. Christian is working hard to become the first ever Olympic Athlete with heart failure and compete at the 2012 London Olympics.
