Sharpie’s Charity Challenge 3 June 2012

The 2012 Charity Challenge will be held on Sunday 3 June. This year’s challenge is a walk from Mordialloc to Albert Park doing 4 laps of Albert Park at the end with a stop in Black Rock and Brighton along the way. However, as always there’s a twist – 500 push-ups as well! The event starts at 6:30am SHARP and should finish by 5:00pm

Hoffy’s Challenge World Record Attempt 14 April 2012

Julie Hoffman is a 42 year old mother of three from Emerald in Victoria who has recently lost 45kg. In April 2011, she completed 1000 Burpee’s in 56 minutes to raise money for Heartkids, who supported her niece Stacey and family during 2006/2007. Stacey, aged 13, sadly passed away in 2007 whilst waiting for a heart transplant. In March 2012 Stacey would be turning 18 years old, in honour of her 18th birthday Julie would like to raise a minimum of $18,000 for Heartkids to thank them for their amazing support during Stacey’s illness. To achieve this Julie will be doing 1500 Burpees which are the most challenging full body exercise there is. This will take place on Saturday April 14th 2012, commencing at 11am with a silent auction that will run until 2pm, the Burpee’s will be starting at 12 noon. The Ferntree Gully Hotel (1130 Burwood Highway, Ferntree Gully) have very kindly donated the use of their function room “The Middle” where there will be entertainment, food, drinks (for purchase), Heartkids representatives, member of our local council, hopefully an AFL player or two will be there as well.

Run Melbourne 15 July 2012

The Age Run Melbourne, is the community fitness event for everyone. With the right training, anyone, at any age and any fitness level can participate. It’s also an opportunity to raise money for HeartKids Victoria. On Sunday, 15 July 2012, The Age Run Melbourne will be held once again, offering participants a half-marathon, a 10km run and a 5km run or walk starting and finishing at Federation Square. On the North West Coast of Tasmania we are absolutely fortunate to have the services of a visiting cardiologist from the Royal Children’s Hospital every three months. This service is provided to those requiring Paediatric Cardiac review regularly and is alternately provided out of the Specialist Outpatient Clinics of the North West Regional Hospital in Burnie and the Mersey Community Hospital at Latrobe. During these appointments babies and children routinely undergo a series of tests, usually including an ECG and echocardiogram (an ultrasound of the heart). The echocardiogram, whilst usually pain free, can be uncomfortable and tricky to manage as it requires lying completely still on a bed for up to 45 mins. This procedure is easier in hospitals on the mainland as they are fitted with a television and DVD player providing the children with entertainment and distraction. We would love to be able to fit the procedure rooms here on the North West Coast with TVs and DVD players.
